Web Assignment # 2

1. A daguerreotype is an early photo taken on silver or a silver plate sensitized with iodine and exposed to mercury vapor. It was developed in 1839. The surface of a daguerreotype is like a mirror with the image made directly on the silver surface. The daguerreotype replaced a camera obscure.

2.The albumen print was the first commercially usable method of making a photo on a paper base using a negative. Using egg whites to bind the chemicals to the paper and it was the main form of photo positives from 1855 century all the way to the turn of the 20th century.

3. Stereographs are two images that are set side by side and one image is for the left eye and one for the right eye so that when looked at the same time the image appears to be 3-D. Popular for decades after its invention in 1860.


4. Carte de Visite was a small photograph of aluminum print on thin paper mounted on a thick card.They could be sent through the mail because of their size and they were relatively inexpensive.
5.Mathew Brady and Alexander Gardner are both known for their Civil War Photography. They were actively taking photos during the civil war.
